To kick off our new series, we are trying out a Manhattan exclusive, the Big Apple Blizzard. Available only at the new DQ Grill & Chill on 14th St in NYC, the Big Apple Blizzard blends together cinnamon apple pie filling with crunchy pie crust pieces and Dairy Queen's signature vanilla soft serve. It is then topped with whipped cream and dusted with cinnamon!
We found the Blizzard to be cold, sweet and pretty tasty, although there were not nearly as many apple pie filling or crust pieces as pictured in the advertisement. The spiced apple chunks, crunchy pie crust pieces, whipped cream and cinnamon all complimented the vanilla ice cream. The crust pieces also tasted more like cookies than pie crust, which isn't a bad thing. Overall, this Blizzard was palatable but not very exciting. The taste is classic and fitting for a NYC exclusive, but we much prefered the Banana Cream Pie, Oreo and S'mores Blizzards we sampled during DQ's opening week. That's not to say you shouldn't try The Big Apple Blizzard, especially since it is such a rare flavor.
