Sure, bacon flavored snack food products are nothing new, but we were very excited to discover these 7-Eleven Kettle Style Maple Bacon Flavored Potato Chips. We really enjoyed 7-Eleven Select's creative Steak Lover's and Big Bite Hot Dog Flavored Potato Chips, so we reckoned these were a sure bet.
These new chips are advertised as "Extra crunchy" and they certainly don't lie. These kettle style chips are some of the crunchiest we've ever tried! The super crunch is actually the best part of these chips because the flavor is confusing. The potato chips don't taste bad, and we ate the entire bag with no problem, but they should have been called Kettle Corn Pork Rind Flavored Potato Chips, because that's exactly what they taste like! The flavor is SUPER salty and there is a severe lack of actual maple and bacon flavors. Instead, they taste just slightly sweet with a vague hint of pork fat. There is no actual bacon or maple syrup in the ingredients, although they do list sugar, brown sugar and "natural flavoring," which could mean anything. What is needed is more smoke and maple flavor for the effect to be successful.
If you're in the mood for some salty 'n' sweet pork rind flavored potato chips then give this crunchy snack a try, but if you're craving maple bacon flavor then don't bother.
