Burger King is growing their dog pack with the new WHOPPER® Dog. Just like their original BK WHOPPER®, this new grilled, 100% beef hot dog is topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mayo and ketchup. We gave this new pup a try and here is what we found!
Our WHOPPER® Dog came cold. We reckon the intention was to serve a sizzling hot dog on a fresh bun topped with crisp, cold toppings and condiments, but the hot dog we received was just plain cold. It was a very busy day at the restaurant location we ordered at so we weren't too surprised by the temperature. The nature of this menu item lends itself to disappointment since the grilled hot dog is the only hot component to the sandwich. This is the type of menu item that needs to be served and eaten immediately.
We rather enjoyed the flavors of the WHOPPER® ingredients with the grilled hot dog, but by the end of the meal, we found ourselves wishing we had just ordered a regular WHOPPER® with Cheese. The hot dog itself, aside from being ice cold, lacked the flame grilled flavor we've come to expect from Burger King. The real star of this new item was the bun. The bread was fluffy and delicious with a subtle sweetness and a very pleasant chewy texture.
While the new WHOPPER® Dog is certainly not bad, we say skip it for the Chili Cheese Grilled Dog, which is sure to come out hot and delicious. Or just keep it old school and order a WHOPPER® or Original Chicken Sandwich instead.
