The lines are always long at this popular Chinese noodle joint on St. Marks in Manhattan. Named after the ancient Chinese city of Xi'an, Xi'an Famous Foods serves authentic comfort food that is unique in flavors -- a cross between Chinese cuisine and Middle Eastern fare.
We tried the Stewed Oxtail Hand-Ripped Noodles. The homemade noodles were chewy and fresh and the oxtail was rich and fatty. The sweet cabbage, crunchy celery and snappy scallions brought it all together. We asked for it spicy and washed it down with some sweet, cold Taiwanese apple soda.
